Childbirth

“A Childbirth and Childcare Lump-Sum Grant” is paid when an insured person gives birth. “A Dependents' Childbirth and Childcare Lump-Sum Grant” is paid when a dependent family member gives birth. Don't forget to add the newborn as a dependent in these cases.

Request a Childbirth and Childcare Lump-Sum Grant

When using the system of direct payment of Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant to medical institutions

Submit the documents on agreement to use the system to the medical care institution or other facility where you plan to give birth. (You need not take any action with respect to the Health Insurance Society. For details, check with the medical care institution or other facility where you plan to give birth.)

Since the additional benefit (90,000 yen) independently provided by the Society is not eligible for the system of direct payment of Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant to medical institutions, you must apply separately to the Society for the additional benefit when using this system. (The additional benefit is paid directly to the insured person.)

If the amount of childbirth costs was less than the legally required amount of the Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant (420,000 yen, or 404,000 yen at a medical care institution not a member of the maternity medical care compensation scheme), you will be paid the difference, along with the additional benefit.

Required documents:

[Documents to attach]

  • Copies of documents on agreement to use the system from the medical care institution or other facility
(documents demonstrating that you have concluded a proxy agreement with the medical care institution or other facility to use the system of direct payment of Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant to medical institutions and indicating the name of the Health Insurance Society as application recipient)
  • Copies of receipts for and details of childbirth expenses
(documents demonstrating that the details are the same as those on the special invoice submitted by the medical care institution or other facility to the Health Insurance Society and, if giving birth at an institution that is a member of the maternity medical care compensation scheme, bearing a stamp certifying that the childbirth took place at a member institution)
Applies to: Insured persons and dependents using the system of direct payment of Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant to medical institutions
Deadline: As soon as possible
Submit documents to: Rakuten KENPO
